In the Indian culture, women are more likely to have nose piercings on their left nostril. Having a piercing on their left nostril symbolizes that they will have less menstrual pain and, they will experience less pain while going through child birth. Nose piercing in India is considered as a way of honoring the Hindu goddess of marriage (Parvathi).
